Notes Julian dates (abbreviated JD) are simply a continuous count of days in decimal since noon Universal Time on January 1, 4713 BC (on the Julian calendar). Julian dates are commonly used form astronomical calculations, and are extremely precise, about 1 millisecond precision.

As JD time begins at noon, and Universal Time (common time) begins at Midnight, you may notice day values change opposite eachother. To make this easier, you may consider JD as based at the International Date Line.

The abbreviation "C.E." is a standard way of denoting dates in scholarly literature. CE means "Common Era" and BCE denotes "Before the Common Era." The year 1 CE is the same as the year 1 AD.

This calculator is a modified version from the U.S. Naval Observatory.
